Joan of Arc Saved France 3162LBJOAN OF ARC SAVED FRANCE, 1918. Original US WW1 Poster (30 x 40” / 98 x 131 cm) originally folded and now linen backed. Originally issued by the United States Department of the Treasury. The poster reads, “Women of America – Save Your Country – Buy War Savings Stamps”. The War Savings Stamps (W.S.S.) program was designed to instill patriotism in the citizens of America and raise funds for the war efforts. Stamps were available in 10-cent and 25-cent options, and were bought by women and young children. The image of Joan raising her sword was illustrated by Haskell Coffin (1878–1941), an American artist best known for his covers portraying women on weekly and monthly magazine covers such as McCall’s Magazine, the American Magazine, Redbook, and the Saturday Evening Post.

Originally folded this poster was in fairly good condition prior to linen backing with some parts of the margins missing from the top left (more severe) and right of poster as well as a 2 inch healed tear above the “v”. Poster has crisp, fresh colors and displays very well.
