1945. DIG FOR PLENTY GUINNESS FOR STRENGTH . Original Advertising poster for the famous Irish Ale Guiness. This rare poster designed by John Gilray depicts a farmer carrying a wheelbarrow impossibly loaded down with his bountiful crop. Like so many Guiness posters this humorous design plays on the strength derived from drinking Guiness with a bottle perhed on the basket on his head. This popular WW2 slogan was often seen during the war years as a Victory rally encouraging farmers and general public to grow more food for the war effort.
Lithograph printed by John Waddington Ltd. Leeds and measures 30 x 20in. (76 x 51cm.) .
Condition C8. Very faint water tide mark near the base, no tears or stains. Poster is mounted on Linen.
