THEN NOW FOREVER, United States Army Original World War 2 Recruitment Poster

Then now foreverTHEN NOW FOREVER, 1940. Original United States Army recruitment poster created by Thomas Woodburn (1893 – 1980) measures (25 x 38” / 63 x 96 cm) and is captioned with  Then – Now – Forever. Thomas Woodburn was himself a high ranking soldier having served in WW1 who turned his talents to poster design. Many of his images are striking and were very successful during the recruitment efforts of WW2. This image depicting  American soldiers dressed in period uniforms through the ages is dominated by a patriotic and victorious female figure draped in an American flag.

This poster had multiple small tears prior to linen backing and these tears appear mainly in the lower quarter of the poster with one long tear in the upper central part of the poster. All the tears have now been retouched. In addition there are some light water stains along the blank lowermost margin. A large section of missing paper in the corner of the poster, again away from the image itself has been filled with vintage paper. The poster displays very nicely with no evidence of fading.
